Sligo Academy of Music lessons and group activities take place from Tuesday – Saturday inclusive at Summerhill College, Knocknaganny, Sligo.
Our classes take place in Summerhill College Tuesday to Thursday from 4.15pm to 8.15pm, Friday 2pm to 7.30pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm. Lessons are all 30 minute one to one lessons costing €24 per lesson which is paid for per term.
All classes are one one classes this affords our tutors to tailor the classes to the child/adults individual needs.
You can study all exam grades with us however this is not a prerequisite for joining the school. Sligo Academy of Music teaches both Classical and contemporary music.
FAQ:
- Can I try out a class?
Not really, as with any school we are trying to fill classes for a term. If you miss out on or drop a class mid term this leaves a blank in the tutors schedule. However, if a tutor has a free spot at one end of their schedule we may be able to arrange a small lesson.
- Will I be Billed for a missed lesson?
Yes, unless agreed in advance with the tutor (we ask for 2 wks notice) the lesson will be billed for if it is missed. The tutor is left with a blank in his/her schedule and we are billing for the time you have booked that term.
- Can lessons be rescheduled?
This can be decided between you and the tutor. If you gave enough notice for missing the lesson, and there is a time the tutor can fit you in their schedule then you can make up a missed lesson.
- What happens if a tutor is absent?
If the tutor is absent then you have two choices, the lesson will be made up at a suitable time. or if this is not possible a credit will be applied to your account. We try to make up lessons as much as possible to try and avoid a child losing interest or falling behind.
- Can my child join the orchestras?
The orchestras are not a prerequisite. But yes we encourage children to join one of our many orchestras. The orchestras are fun and children that are involved in them tend to have more of an interest in the learning aspect of music. Your child will also learn how to perform on stage as part of an ensemble which is a great skill to carry forward.
- How much are the orchestras?
Orchestras a billed twice a year, Half in the first term and the remainder in the second term.

- How much are Theory Lessons?
Theory lessons are billed quarterly at €48
- Can I join any Theory class
Yes you simply join the class suitable to your grade. If needed you can make up a class on another day/time if you cannot make your usual class.
