Stan Burns – Saxaphone/Clarinet
Stan Burns is a native of Sligo and has been involved in the musical scene from a very young age.
He toured the world as a member of various bands during the Show Band era; The Jack Ruane Showband and The Capitol Showband to name just two of the best known in their time.
Since moving back to Ireland in the nineties he played in a few different jazz bands, the most recent one, The Bughouse Band, and started teaching saxophone and clarinet.
He has been and still is involved in the Music in The Classroom project which brings live music to primary and secondary school children.
Since 2012 he teaches saxophone and clarinet at The Sligo Academy of Music.
In 2013 he founded The Sligo Academy of Music Youth Jazz Orchestra, a lifelong ambition of his.
His main objective with the Youth Jazz Orchestra is to show children the enjoyment that can be derived from playing music together. So far his band has performed to much acclaim at several concerts and fundraising events and continues to go from strength to strength.
