Niamh McKenna studied at the Sligo Academy of Music for 11 years under its director of music, Niamh Crowley. She completed all her RIAM examination grades to Senior Certificate with distinction and also was the recipient of RIAM High Achievers awards for her exceptional exam results. Niamh was selected to play solo in the RIAM Gala Concert in Dublin.

 

As a student of the Ursuline College she received a Special Merit Award for her contribution to the musical life of the school. She was the leader of the SAM Sinfonietta Orchestra and performed with them both in Ireland in venues such as the National Concert Hall, and other countries including The Czech Republic, Holland and Hungary. 

 

Under the leadership of Niamh Crowley and Michael Rooney Niamh was among the players that performed for Prince Charles on his state visit to Sligo in 2015. As a member of the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland she performed for descendants of the Easter Rising and President Michael D. Higgins at the RDS. They also performed in the Barbican Theatre in London, followed by a ten-day tour of Ireland. She has performed at many All Ireland Fleadhs and also for the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park.

 

Niamh is in her 3rd year of a B.Ed course, in both mainstream and Special Educational Needs classes obtaining a 1.1 grade on her most recent placement.
